John Mcknight

Biography

John McKnight is Director of Community Studies of the Institute for Policy Research at Northwestern University where he has conducted research and written in the fields of community development, neighborhood policy, social service delivery systems, health policy and institutional racism.

McKnight is currently Co-Director of the Asset-Based Community Development Institute, a national research and training program focused on neighborhood revitalization. The Institute has an international faculty of 32 trainers and has published North America's most used guide to community development titled, Building Communities from the Inside Out.

McKnight's collected essays were recently published by Basic Books in a volume titled, The Careless Society.

Before joining Northwestern University, he worked as an organizer in Chicago's neighborhoods and then directed the Midwest Office of the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights.
